Icy road causes crash

Icy conditions on Big Laurel Road in Creston contributed to a two-vehicle collision that sent two people to Ashe Memorial Hospital this morning.


The accident occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m. when the two SUV’s, a Jeep Liberty and Honda CR-V, collided head-on in an icy curve at 3944 Big Laurel Road.


The occupant of the Honda was removed from the vehicle by emergency services personnel. The driver, the Honda’s only occupant, was conscious when EMS workers removed him from the vehicle and loaded him into a Blue Ridge Medical Transport ambulance before being transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.


The severity of his injuries is unknown.


The Jeep Liberty’s driver, the vehicle’s only occupant, suffered unknown injuries, but was alert and conscious while being assisted by rescue personnel.


She was also transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.


The identities of the drivers is unknown.


Members of the Creston Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident and provided assistance to both drivers.
