A Crumpler minister was arrested and charged with five sex crimes that involved a mentally-challenged person in his care on Thursday, May 8, 2014, according officers with the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.
Rev. Billy Howard Guy, 60, of Wiley F. Gambill Road, Crumpler, was charged with one count of felony sexual offense, one count of felony second-degree sexual assault and three counts of sexual battery, according to ASCO Capt. Carolyn Gentry and ACSO’s Detective Jerry Lewis.
“The investigation began in July 2013 and concerned a mentally-challenged individual who was placed in the care of Guy and his wife,” said Gentry.
Gentry said Guy and his wife petitioned the court to become the guardians of the victim when her mother passed away several years ago.
Dianne was arrested several months ago on multiple charges of embezzlement after allegedly stealing the victim’s Social Security disability payments, said Gentry. Dianne was released on bond and is awaiting trial on those charges, said Gentry.
After Billy’s arrest, he was placed under an unknown bond amount. He was released after several hours in custody after making bail, said Gentry.
Billy’s first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, May 15.
