The body of a man was discovered in Lansing shortly after noon on Friday.

It was discovered in woods behind property in the 2000 block of Big Piney Creek Road in Lansing.

A source with the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) confirmed the body was that of 42-year-old Edward Adams and said there was no foul play involved in his death.

Ashe County Emergency Management Services personnel and volunteers from local fire departments began searching for Adams, late Thursday evening, after he didn’t return home from an afternoon walk.

In addition to the ACSO, the Ashe County Rescue Squad, the West Jefferson Police Department, the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department, Warrensville Volunteer Fire and Rescue, New River Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Creston Volunteer Fire Department and volunteers from the community had all been participating in the search for Adams.
