A Fleetwood couple have been charged with several sexual criminal offenses involving children, according to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.
Joni K. Baldwin, 31, of Fleetwood, was arrested Saturday, May 17, 2014, on felony child abuse and first degree sexual offense of a child by an adult, according to the ACSO.
The victims are the children of Baldwin, according to Ashe County Sheriff’s Capt. Carolyn Gentry.
Baldwin is currently being held in the Ashe County Detention Center under a $300,000 bond.
The charges resulted from an investigation that began in January 2014, according to Gentry.
Baldwin had been arrested earlier this year, on Jan. 31, 2014, on multiple counts of obstruction of justice and intimidating state witnesses. She had been released from the Ashe County Detention Center while awaiting trial on those charges.
Baldwin’s husband, James Allen Jordan, was also arrested and charged with several sexually-related offenses, including rape of a child and five counts of sexual assault by an object on Jan. 22, 2014, according to the ACSO.
He was also arrested on multiple counts of obstruction of justice and intimidating state witnesses on Jan. 31, 2014.
Jordan remains in the Ashe County Detention Center under bond.
Gentry said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
