A man was injured and taken to Ashe Memorial Hospital (AMH) after he lost control of his car and ran up against a retaining wall on Tuesday, in Jefferson.

The single vehicle accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. across from Village Florist on South Main Street.

According to an eyewitness, the driver was pinned in his GMC Envoy and had to be physically removed from the vehicle.

Detective David Witherspoon with the Jefferson Police Department said the man was transported to AMH and was still there late Tuesday evening.

In addition to the Jefferson Police Department, the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department and Blue Ridge Medical Transport responded to the accident.
