The following are collision reports posted by the N.C. Highway Patrol in Ashe County and are considered public record.


Aug. 8


Highway 221


A single-vehicle accident occurred at 12:06 p.m. on Highway 221 near the Watauga County line.


According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Kathryn Lumpkin of Blowing Rock was traveling south when she ran off the right shoulder of the road and struck a fence. The vehicle came to rest in a field. The 2010 Jeep suffered an estimated $4,000 in damages and was considered not driveable.


Lumpkin was cited for lane control violation.


Jefferson


A single-vehicle accident took place at 5:09 p.m. on Upper Cranberry Road near Highway 88 in Jefferson.


According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Christel Norris of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina was traveling north when the vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left and over an embankment. The vehicle overturned and collided with an oak tree and came to a stop.


The 2000 Ford driven by Norris suffered approximately $3,500 in damages and was not considered driveable.


Norris was cited for failure to maintain lane of travel and hit and run.


Aug. 11


Highway 163


A single-vehicle accident occurred at 2 a.m. on Highway 163 in West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Robert Griffitts of West Jefferson was traveling north when his vehicle crossed the center line and traveled off the left side of the roadway, striking a guardrail. The vehicle came to rest on the left shoulder of the road. Griffitts left the scene on foot.


The 1991 Mitsubishi suffered approximately $3,000 in damages and was considered not driveable.


Griffitts was cited for failure to maintain lane control and failure to report an accident.


Ray Taylor Road


A single-vehicle accident occurred at 10:46 p.m. on Ray Taylor Road in West Jefferson. According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Richard Cox of Todd was traveling east when his automobile drove off the right side of the road and traveled down an embankment before colliding with a ditch bank. The vehicle came to a stop on private property.


Cox’s 2010 Toyota had an estimated $5,500 in damages and was considered not driveable. Cox was cited for exceeding a safe speed.


Jefferson


A single-vehicle accident occurred at 11:13 p.m. on Don Walters Road in Jefferson. According to the narrative, Tyler Jones of Jefferson and a passenger Enrique Coronado of Jefferson were traveling north when the vehicle traveled left of the center line and off the roadway. The vehicle then traveled over an embankment before colliding with a creek bank and coming to a stop.


A 2005 Chevy suffered an estimated $1,100 in damages and was considered not driveable. Jones was cited for exceeding a safe speed.


Aug. 12


Highway 194


A two-car accident occurred at 6:40 a.m. on Highway 194 in Lansing. According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Mildred Testerman of Grassy Creek slowed down to make a left turn into the parking lot of the Lansing Shell station when a vehicle driven by Tony Miller of Lansing was traveling too fast and swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision. Miller’s vehicle struck the left front quarter panel of the vehicle in the parking lot.


Miller’s 2002 Ford has approximately $3,000 in damages while Testerman’s 2008 Ford has approximately $2,500 in damages. Both vehicles were driveable.


Miller was cited for failure to reduce speed.


Aug. 16


Highway 163


A two-car accident took place at 11:49 a.m. on Highway 163 near West Jefferson. According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Richard Abernethy of Newton, North Carolina was traveling north when he attempted to stop to avoid a collision with a vehicle stopped ahead of him in the roadway. Abernethy’s vehicle drove off the side of the road into the 163 Grocery parking lot where it hit the parked vehicle of Evan Miller of West Jefferson.


Abernethy’s 1998 Toyota suffered approximately $3,000 in damages and was not considered driveable. Miller’s 1998 Dodge suffered an estimated $1,500 in damages but was driveable.


Abernethy was cited for failure to reduce speed.


Highway 16


A two-vehicle accident occurred at 3:15 p.m. on Highway 16 near Jefferson. According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Buster Bare of West Jefferson was traveling north on Highway 16 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a motorcycle driven by Billy Church of Cleveland, North Carolina. Both vehicles moved off the road after the impact.


Bare’s 1998 Subaru had an estimated $500 in damages while Church’s 1998 Harley Davidson also had approximately $500 in damages. Both vehicles were considered driveable.


Bare was cited for driving left of center.
