The following are collision reports posted by the N.C. Highway Patrol in Ashe County and are considered public record.


Aug. 18


Highway 221


A two-car accident took place at 10:59 a.m. on Highway 221 near West Jefferson. According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Ronnie Moore of North Wilkesboro made an illegal left turn out of the Lowes Hardware parking lot onto Highway 221. Moore’s vehicle then crossed the center line and hit a vehicle head-on, driven by Patricia Fairchild of Deep Gap.


Moore’s 1997 Dodge suffered approximately $3,000 in damages and was considered not driveable. Fairchild’s 2006 Jeep suffered approximately $3,000 in damages and was considered not driveable.


Moore was cited for improper left turn, driving left of center and driving with a revoked license.


Aug. 19


Highway 88


A single-vehicle accident occurred at 6:26 a.m. on Highway 88 in Creston. According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Jose Amaro Pena of Creston was traveling east on Highway 88 near Rich Hill Road when the vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right. Amaro Pena overcorrected and the vehicle traveled across the center of the road for coming to rest in a ditch on the left side of the highway.


A 1999 Saturn had an estimated $1,000 in damages and was considered not driveable.


Amaro Pena was cited for driving without a license and failure to maintain lane control.


Frank Dillard Road


A single-vehicle accident took place at 4:05 p.m. on Frank Dillard Road near West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Alan Fields of Laurel Springs was traveling north when his vehicle ran off the road to the right, struck a fence, and then struck a small tree.


The 2005 Jeep involved in the accident suffered approximately $1,500 in damages and was rendered not driveable.


Fields was cited for failure to maintain lane control.


Aug. 20


Highway 221


A single-vehicle accident occurred at 4:30 a.m. on Highway 221 near Idlewild Road. According to the narrative, a car driven by Mark Marquette of West Jefferson was traveling north when he swerved to miss a deer in the roadway. The vehicle traveled off the road to the left and down an embankment. The vehicle then struck a rock and a fence before coming to a rest at the bottom of the embankment.


Marquette was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.


The 2003 Jeep involved suffered approximately $6,000 in damages and was rendered not driveable.


Marquette was cited for failure to maintain lane control and driving with an expired registration.


Crumpler


A single-vehicle accident occurred at 11:15 p.m. off of Highway 16 in Crumpler. According to the narrative, a vehicle driven by Carolyn Bennett of Crumpler was traveling west on Shortcut Road when the vehicle ran off the road to the right, struck a tree and then went down an embankment before coming to a rest.


The 2008 Honda suffered approximately $1,000 and was considered not driveable.


According to the report, a citation is pending.
