Ashe volleyball schedule released

The Lady Husky volleyball team will have a pair of scrimmages before officially opening the 2013 season.


Ashe will scrimmage at Alexander Central on Saturday, Aug. 10 and again on Thursday, Aug. 15 at Catawba College. Several teams will be at each location, giving them a chance to fine-tune their skills before the regular season opens.


The season begins with four non-conference games against area schools. Ashe will travel to Watauga on Monday, Aug. 19 before playing Avery at home the following day. On Aug. 26, the Lady Huskies will host Watauga before wrapping up the brief non-conference schedule with a road match at Avery.


Mountain Valley Conference games fire up on Aug. 29 at Alleghany. Ashe will turn around and host two straight against Elkin on Sept. 3 and Starmount on Sept. 5.


The team will hit the road for a pair of games the following week. Wilkes Central hosts Ashe on Sept. 10 and East Wilkes will be the opponent on Sept. 12.


Ashe returns home for three straight at ACHS. The ladies host North Wilkes on Sept. 17, followed by West Wilkes on Sept. 19 and the second half of the conference schedule begins on Sept. 24 against Alleghany.


September wraps up with a road game at Elkin on Sept. 26.


The final five conference matches will take place during the first half of October. Ashe hits the road to Starmount on the first day of the month before home contests against Wilkes Central on Oct. 3 and East Wilkes on Oct. 8.


The Lady Huskies close the regular season with trips to North Wilkes (Oct. 10) and West Wilkes (Oct. 15).


State playoff sectionals start Oct. 19 with regional competition beginning Oct. 26 and finally the 2A State Championship match on Nov. 2.
