For the second straight season, the Ashe County junior varsity football team finished an undefeated run in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

Ashe has now won 14 consecutive MVAC games over the last two years. The Huskies capped off this season with a 42-6 win at Elkin on Thursday.

The Huskies got off to a quick start on the first drive of the game. Runs by Tristen Jones and Alex Richardson got the ball inside the Elkin red zone. Hunter Argetsinger punched the ball in from 13 yards out for the first score with 7:05 left in the first quarter.

Elkin’s first drive ended in a punt that was partially blocked by Richardson, and then returned 18 yards for a TD by Dante Shuler.

Ashe scored one more touchdown in the first to put Elkin back three scores very early on. Colin Ellis tossed a 20-yard slant to Shuler. Kendall Richardson converted his third extra point to put Ashe in front, 21-0 going to the second quarter.

The Huskies just kept pouring it on. Elkin punted on its first drive of the second and the Ashe ground game went right back to work. Jones got the three-yard TD run with 6:25 left to increase the score to 28-0.

Alex Richardson got his first rushing TD of the evening from five yards out. Ashe was ahead 35-0 at the halftime break.

Ashe took it easy on the Elks in the second half. The team got a defensive touchdown with 3:34 remaining in the third. Shuler put the finishing touches on an impressive night. Earlier he returned a black punt for a TD, then caught a pass for a score. This time, Shuler scooped up a fumble and returned it 20 yards for a defensive score and a 42-0 lead.

Elkin got on the board late in the fourth quarter to avoid the shutout.

The JV team was nearly unstoppable all season long. Ashe scored 255 points in 10 games while giving up just 80 points.

Ashe finished the season 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the MVAC.
