Ashe rallied from a 10-point deficit in the championship game of the Miller Insurance/Dr. Pepper JV Invitational Tournament on Saturday to get the victory.

The Huskies got to the championship game with a 67-30 win over Avery on Friday. Dante Shuler led Ashe with 17 points. Coco Clay and James Bittle both scored 12 and Judd Price had 10.

In the championship game, Ashe had to come from behind. The Huskies outscored Watauga 20-8 in the second half to get a 47-45 win in the final game.

Clay, who was named MVP of the tourney, finished with a game-high 22 points. Kris Lonidier had eight points and Bittle added seven. Both Bittle and Price were chosen to the all-tournament team.

Defensively, the Huskies got some outstanding play from Shuler in the second game.

“Dante was great on the defensive end, he worked hard out there to help us make that comeback in the fourth quarter,” said Head Coach Daniel Waln.

Overall, the Huskies are 5-1 on the early season and are looking to hit their stride before conference play begins.

“These kids are playing hard every game and giving it all they have on the court. This team plays with so much heart and a great attitude,” said Coach Waln.

The Huskies will play at North Surry on Tuesday before facing the rival Pioneers in Boone on Friday.
