The Lady Husky players and coaches were able to celebrate their first win of the season last week at Hibriten, while the varsity men’s team continues to look for that first victory.

Ashe 49, Hibriten 24

Hallie Brown played her best game of the season, especially on defense, to help the Lady Huskies easily handle Hibriten.

Brown finished with eight points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists.

As a team, Ashe forced 24 turnovers and had 15 steals while keeping the Panthers from reaching double-figure scoring in any quarter.

“Our defense and rebounding effort as got to be a constant for us if we expect to be competitive,” said Head Coach Laura Foster. “Tonight we did a good job at both. I was really pleased with our defensive effort. Our defense was the difference.”

Paige Spell was Ashe’s leading scorer with 12 points. The junior also snagged seven rebounds and had three assists and three steals. Ashton Lee scored 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Point guard Morgan Hudler had nine points, four steals and four assists.

Savannah Brooks finished with four points and three boards, Sydney Grubb had three points, and Chloe Sullivan was the final Ashe scorer with two points.

“We did a nice job of sharing the basketball as we recorded 15 assists and had balanced scoring,” Coach Foster said. “But our offense continues to struggle with turnovers. We will continue to work to improve and limit our turnovers.”

The Lady Huskies are 1-2 overall.

Hibriten 67, Ashe 41

The Panthers outscored Ashe 36-12 in the second and third quarters to send Ashe to its third defeat in as many games.

Hibriten held an 11-8 lead going to the second quarter, but then burst ahead with a 20-8 scoring advantage in the second to take a 31-16 halftime lead.

The second half was not any better with the Panthers pushing that lead to 47-20 after three.

Maison McNeill was Ashe’s high scorer with 12 points. The sophomore also had two rebounds and two steals.

Connor Bowers had seven points. Parker Shelton scored six points and had a team-high eight rebounds with two assists and two steals.

Cullen Ashley and Devan Sheets added five, James Bittle scored four points, Evan Owen had one point and Kaleb Sexton had one point.

Both varsity teams will be back in action this Tuesday at North Surry.
