Elkin outscored Ashe County 15-4 in the fourth quarter to escape with a 53-49 win over the visiting Lady Huskies.

“Elkin has always been a tough place to play, and we played one of our better games of the season,” said Head Coach Laura Foster. “I was pleased with our effort, we put ourselves in a position to win in the fourth quarter but couldn’t hang on to the lead.”

Courtney Beals scored 18 points to lead the Lady Elks. Carrie Brown added 12 points and MaKayla Dimmette scored eight.

As a team, Ashe shot 41-percent from the field and 38-percent from behind the three-point line. The Huskies did not get to attempt a single free throw in the game. Elkin shot 18 free throws.

Coach Foster was pleased with how the offense flowed in this game and felt like it was probably the best the offense had looked so far this year. However, the team has a few things they need to continue to work on.

“We still had too many turnovers, several were unforced. We need to continue to improve our rebounding,” Foster said.

Paige Spell had a strong game with 14 points, seven rebounds and a pair of steals.

Ashton Lee finished with 11 points and two rebounds. Morgan Hudler added eight points and a game-high five assists.

Abby Lopp ended up with six points and six rebounds, Hallie Brown had six points and Savannah Brooks rounded out Ashe’s scoring with four points and four boards.

Ashe is 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the MVAC. Elkin is 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the MVAC.

The Lady Huskies return to ACHS on Friday for the second regular season meeting with Watauga.
