The junior varsity basketball teams split with Watauga. The boys came away with their second win of the season over Watauga while the girls lost a heart breaker.

Ashe 44, Watauga 43

The Huskies escaped with the one-point win after a catch-and-shoot opportunity for Watauga’s Levi Wilcox hit the rim and bounced away.

Freshman CoCo Clay led the way with 12 points. Point guard Judd Price added 10 points and James Bittle scored nine. Stanton Moore finished with six points, Colin Ellis had five and Malachi Poe scored two points.

Zach Valet led all scorers with 15 points and Caleb Bryant was right behind with 14 points.

Watauga 26, Ashe 25

Ashe fell to Watauga by just one point with a shot in the final 10 seconds of the game missing the mark and falling out of bounds.

Karson Hamrick led the Pioneers with eight points and Tristin Derrick chipped in four.

Alayne Spencer had a game-high 11 points. Brooke Price scored six points, Amanda Gambill had five and Grace Miller scored two.

Both Ashe JV teams return to the court on Tuesday at Avery County.
