The Lady Huskies evened its overall record to 6-6 by winning the Colvard Oil Holiday Classic this past weekend at Ashe County High School.
In the first round, Ashe faced off against Hibriten and used a big third quarter to get a 56-34 win. The Lady Huskies outscored its opponent by a 24-11 margin in the third quarter to blow open a one-point game at halftime.
Savannah Brooks collected her first ever double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Morgan Hudler added nine points and a game-high nine assists. Paige Spell finished with six points, Ashton Lee added six points and five rebounds and Hallie Brown scored six points and had team-leading five steals.
Abby Lopp finished with four points, Sydney Kate Grubb had four and Chloe Sullivan scored two points.
Hibriten was led by Alex McKary with 10 points. Emily Church scored seven, Emerald Brown had five, Katie Bruce scored four, Lydia Sanders had four and Brittany Marton added four points.
In the championship game on Saturday, the Lady Huskies beat Watauga for the third time this season, a 55-51 win to claim the title.
“We are fortunate that we get to stay at home and host this tournament over the Christmas holiday. We really appreciate Larry Dollar and Colvard Oil for continuing their sponsorship of this tournament,” said Ashe County Head Coach Laura Foster.
Hudler was named MVP of the tournament. Spell and Brooks were named to the all-tournament team. Savanna Wood and Kaelin McNeill represented Watauga on the all-tournament team. Hibriten’s McKary and North Forsyth’s Myesha Hall rounded out the team.
The Lady Huskies resume conference play on Friday at Starmount.
