Zeb Richardson scored 16 points and added four rebounds and two blocks in 34 minutes on the court, but it was not enough for the Guilford Quakers with Messiah College getting the 82-72 victory.
This loss marked the third straight for the Quakers after starting the season 9-0.
Guilford had an early lead, but a 20-9 run by the Falcons changed momentum halfway through the half.
The Quakers rallied to close to within one point at halftime, trailing 40-39.
In the second half, the undefeated Messiah squad regrouped at the half and started pulling away from Guilford. The Quakers trailed by as much as 16 points.
However, Guilford battled back hard in the final seven minutes of the half. The Quakers went on a 17-4 spurt to get to within three points at 73-70.
Messiah was able to hit some free throws and get some clutch baskets in the final 1:30 to take the 10-point win.
Guilford’s Trever Hyatt led all scorers with 24 points. Jake Hopkins had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Matt McCarthy had 12 points and six boards, Josh Spainhour added four points and Alston Furr scored two points.
The Quakers shot 40 percent from the field and just 22 percent from beyond the three-point line.
Messiah shot 51 percent from the field and was equally as accurate behind the three-point arc, hitting 12-of-24 shots.
The Falcons had five scorers in double figures. Taylor Groff scored 17, Scott Bolen had 15, David Fernandez scored 12, Zac Hoy added 10 and Aaron DeVan chipped in 10.
Guilford now sits at 9-3 overall while Messiah moved to 10-0.
The Quakers will get back on the court this Saturday with a conference road game at Bridgewater at 2 p.m.
