Governor Pat McCrory is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association by proclaiming January 6-11, 2014 in its honor and is encouraging citizens to become more involved in high school athletics.
“Sports enrich the lives of students throughout North Carolina,” said Gov. McCrory. “I played tennis and football at Ragsdale High School, and I have great memories of the friendships built during that time. I would like to thank and honor the NCHSAA for the work they do with high school sports.”
The NCHSAA governs interscholastic athletic programs throughout the state. The Association serves over 200,000 student athletes at 399 member high schools.
The NCHSAA currently sponsors 19 sports during the fall, winter and spring seasons.
