Ashe County remained at the top of the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference standings with its 65-51 win on the road at East Wilkes last Friday.
The victory gave the Huskies a 5-9 overall record, but more importantly, a 3-1 mark in the MVAC.
Senior Devan Sheets led the team in points with 17 and rebounds with six. Sheets hit three of his five three-point attempts.
Alex Spencer scored 16 points, Bradley Lucas had 12 points and four assists and senior Cullen Ashley added eight points, five rebounds and two steals.
Connor Bowers chipped in seven points and two assists and Corbin Winebarger rounded out the scoring with four points.
As a team, Ashe hit a season-high nine three-point baskets.
Will Jolly scored 18 points for the Cardinals.
East Wilkes remained winless on the season, falling to 0-14 overall and 0-5 in the MVAC.
The Huskies will be back on the court this Friday at home against rival Wilkes Central. The Eagles are coming off of a tough loss to Alleghany. Central is 7-6 overall and holds a 2-2 record in conference action.
Six of the eight MVAC schools all have one or two losses in the standings, meaning that the last month of the regular season should be an exciting one until the very end to determine the conference champion.
Only East Wilkes and Elkin (0-5) seem to be out of contention for the conference crown.
