It was a tough two days of hoops action for the Huskies, dropping a pair of important conference games as the regular season winds down and playoff aspirations are on the line.
Starmount 59, Ashe 42
The Rams outscored Ashe in all four quarters and got a big game from Kyler Gregory to get the season sweep over the Huskies.
Gregory had 16 points and snagged eight rebounds. Trey Bryant scored 12 points and grabbed nine boards and guard Luke Shore scored 12 points.
The Huskies did not have anybody to reach double-figure scoring, but three came within one point of it. Connor Bowers, Bradley Lucas and Devan Sheets each scored nine. Cullen Ashley had six, Alex Spencer scored three, Corbin Winebarger scored three, Gavin Woodie had two and Parker Shelton hit one free throw.
Sheets and Ashley were Ashe’s two seniors this year and both were honored before the game for their hard work and dedication to the basketball program.
Wilkes Central 61, Ashe 47
The Eagles had a 28-22 lead at the half and slowly began pulling away in the third and fourth quarters to get the win over the rival Huskies.
Lucas finished with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists and three blocks.
Spencer scored 12 points, Winebarger added seven and Sheets scored seven. Ashley finished with five and Bowers scored three points and had four rebounds.
Ashe shot 40-percent from the field, but committed 13 turnovers.
The Huskies are 9-14 overall and 7-6 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
