For the third time this season, the Starmount Rams got the best of the Huskies, this time in the semifinals of the Mountain Valley Conference Tournament at North Wilkes last Thursday.

James Ashley poured in 24 points and had three steals on the defensive end of the court to send the Rams to the championship game.

Luke Shore added nine points, Josh Houser had eight and Trey Bryant had six.

Ashe did a great job against Kyler Gregory, holding him to just two points. Last time out, Gregory scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds to cap the regular season sweep over Ashe.

Senior Devan Sheets scored 11 points in his final game and fellow senior Cullen Ashley had six points and three rebounds.

Connor Bowers put in nine points, Judd Price scored five, Coco Clay had four, Bradley Lucas scored four and Kendall Richardson also had four points. Gavin Woodie finished with three and Corbin Winebarger wrapped up Ashe’s scoring totals with two points.

For Starmount, the Rams went on to win the MVAC Tournament over Alleghany and locked down the top 1A seed from the conference.

Ashe saw its season come to an end as the squad was left out of the 2A state playoffs.

The Huskies finished up at 10-16 overall, but certainly have a bright future to look forward too. Ashe will return three starters and have a great amount of depth, including help from a junior varsity squad that finished the year at 19-3 overall and 13-0 in the conference.
