Ashe scored its second conference win of the year, earning a 4-3 win at rival Wilkes Central on Thursday.

Central jumped ahead quick with a goal in the second minute from Mary Hollis.

Ashe tied the game in the eighth minute with a goal from senior Candi Sanchez.

The Lady Huskies added two more goals in the first half. Alexis Parks netted the first of those two goals in the 19th minute before Natalie Harless put Ashe in front, 3-1 in the 39th minute.

Central’s Taylor Shew was able to get a shot by Chrissy Simmons in the 40th minute to send a 3-2 game to the halftime break.

Both defenses buckled down early in the second half with scoring chances limited each way.

Sanchez tallied her second goal of the night in the 69th minute to give Ashe a 4-2 lead.

The Lady Eagles kept battling hard and pulled back to within one goal when Sierra Massucco scored on a quick counter attack.

Simmons and the Ashe defense held strong in the final 10 minutes to get the Huskies a much-needed win.

Earlier in the week, Ashe shutout Starmount, 5-0.

The Lady Huskies are now 3-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

This week, the team is scheduled to play three matches. The ladies head to East Wilkes on Tuesday and then Avery County on Wednesday for a non-conference match. Ashe wraps up the week at home against North Wilkes on Friday.
