Ashe bounced back from a tough loss earlier in the week to East Wilkes to blow out North Wilkes on Friday night.

East Wilkes 15, Ashe 0

The Cardinals scored in all four innings, including putting up eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to get the mercy rule victory.

Ashe did have one highlight in the game as the team turned a triple play in the third inning. Chloe Sullivan caught a fly ball, tossed it to Hannah Blevins at second base for the double play and then Blevins threw the ball to Savannah Brooks at first base to complete the rare triple play.

The Huskies’ lone hit in the contest came from Blevins as Kennedy Lester was nearly unhittable. All 12 of Ashe’s outs in the game came from strikeouts.

Molly McCollum had two hits and drove in two runs. Adrian Pardue and Ashley Wagoner each scored three runs and added one run knocked in.

Ashe 18, North Wilkes 3

With the team still searching for that first win of the season, the bats came to life in a big way, scoring 12 runs in the first inning to eventually beat North Wilkes, 18-3, in three innings.

Blevins and Abigail Miller both finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Blevins had three runs scored and four RBI’s while Miller scored twice, smacked a home run and added four RBI’s. Melanie Day had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI’s, Brooks had three runs knocked in and Sloan Elliott had three runs scored and three stolen bases to lead the Husky offense.

On the mound, Miller got the win. She allowed three runs on four hits with five walks in three innings.

Gussie Bowers drove in a pair of runs for North Wilkes.

Ashe is now 1-6 overall and in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
