Melissa Ramos scored a hat trick to help the Lady Huskies put an early end to its match against Alleghany with a 9-0 mercy rule win.

The game ended in the 50th minute with the team’s fifth goal of the second half.

Taylor May started the game with a goal in the ninth minute.

Ramos netted back-to-back goals in the 15th minute and the 26th minute to put Ashe in front, 3-0.

In the closing minute of the half, an unfortunate defensive miscue for Alleghany saw one of the team’s fullbacks kick the ball into its own net trying to clear the ball away from the goal. This gave Ashe a 4-0 halftime lead.

Candi Sanchez scored her lone goal of the game just one minute into the second half.

After that, Bekah Bowers scored two straight goals, one in the 44th minute and the next in the 47th minute. Ramos capped off her great night with her third goal in the 48th minute.

On Saturday, Ashe faced off against West Stokes, who entered the game with a 15-1 overall record. West shut out Ashe County, 2-0.

The Lady Huskies are 7-6-1 overall and 6-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

Ashe is scheduled to play on three straight evenings this week. The team travels to Elkin on Tuesday before hosting Watauga on Wednesday and Starmount on Thursday. Elkin is the only conference team so far to deal the ladies a loss, a 1-0 defeat in the first MVAC game of the year.
