Oak Hill senior big man Rokas Gustys signed his National Letter of Intent recently to play basketball at Hofstra University next season.
The 6-9 center nearly averaged a double-double last season at 12 points and nine rebounds a game on one of the top prep basketball teams in the nation.
Gustys picked Hofstra over Rhode Island, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Tulane and San Jose State.
Gustys rounds out a five-player recruiting class for Hofstra that included two transfers from Niagara University, Juan’ya Green and Ameen Tanksley, Brian Bernard, a transfer from SMU and fellow freshman Eliel Gonzalez from Puerto Rico.
The big Lithuanian will be a welcome site to the Hofstra Pride team as they lost their top rebounder from last season (Stephen Nwaukoni) and top scorer (Zeke Upshaw). Upshaw led all Colonial Athletic Association at just under 20 points per game. Gustys will also be the tallest player on the team now and can contribute minutes at power forward or center.
Gustys becomes the sixth member of Oak Hill’s senior class to sign his Letter of Intent to play basketball at the next level. Twin brothers Caleb and Cody Martin will be attending N.C. State, B.J. Stith will be attending Virginia and Kem Ubaru will be attending UNC-Asheville.
Guard Shelton Mitchell was released from his recent Letter of Intent from Wake Forest after the Demon Deacons fired head coach Jeff Bzdelik. Mitchell will most certainly have a spot on a major college basketball team. Mitchell plans to visit Vanderbilt and Missouri among other teams.
