Wilkes Central grabbed an early lead, but the Lady Husky players continued to show their poise and skill by rallying from behind once again for a 2-1 win over the visiting Eagles on Wednesday.

Central grabbed a lead in the first half off of a penalty kick and held that for 70 minutes.

In the last 10 minutes however, it was a completely different game.

Taylor May tied the game up in the 71st minute with a header that got through the Central defense and into the back of the net.

With just a minute and a half left in the game, Ashe countered an Eagle attack for the game-winning goal. Candi Sanchez rifled a shot into the net off of a crossing pass from May.

Ashe turned around and traveled to Watauga on Thursday to wrap up the regular season with a non-conference matchup. The Pioneers came away with a 2-1 win.

Ashe finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-7-1. Most importantly, the Lady Huskies captured the 2014 Mountain Valley Conference Championship by finishing 13-1 in league play and wrapping up at least one home playoff game.

The Lady Huskies’ first playoff game is scheduled for Wednesday, but could be played on Tuesday if both schools agree to the move or if there are weather concerns for Wednesday.
