The Ashe County Arts Council is excited to present the 45th annual Ashe County Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddlers Convention.
The bluegrass and old time music competition for adults and youth will take place Aug. 1-2, 2014 at Ashe County Park, in Jefferson.
Friday’s competitions will start at 4 p.m. and will run through 11 p.m. Saturday’s competition will start at 11 a.m. and run through 11 p.m.
Admission for the fiddlers convention is $10 per night or $15 for the weekend. Tickets can be purchased the day of at Ashe County Park or by calling the Ashe County Arts Council at (336) 846-2787.
Camping and concessions will be available on site. In addition, spaces for campers and tents will be available for visitors to use.
The Fiddlers Convention is a celebration and showcase of the musical talent and heritage of the High Country region of North Carolina. The weekend of competitions encourage participants to compete in several different categories.
Both days will include folk song, dulcimer, and autoharp competitions, adult individual competitions and an adult band competition. Saturday ‘s competitions will also feature youth band and youth individual competitions and award presentations within youth, adult band and adult individual divisions.
Musicians can register for to perform the day of the competition. Performance slots will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Musicians Kyle Dean Smith, Joe Shelton and Lynn Worth will serve as competition judges and the convention will be emceed by musician and long-time festival participant Dale Morris.
