Volunteer firefighters from the West Jefferson and Jefferson Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a small brush fire that endangered a manufactured home on Doggett Road at 8:10 p.m. Friday night.
As firefighters arrived, they were confronted with flames within only a few feet, and exceeding the height, of the structure.
Foregoing suiting up in their turnout gear to speed the response, the volunteers trained their water hoses on the flames and quickly knocked down the blaze.
This was one of two fires county volunteers responded to on Friday.
The cause of the Doggett Road fire was unknown when this report was filed.
