Local bargains and deals will be found at the Ashe County Senior Center, as it hosts a yard sale fundraiser on Thursday, July 24 and Friday, July 25.
The yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days, and all money raised by the event will go to Senior Center activities. Senior Center activities include exercise classes, computer classes, music, singing and various activities occurring throughout the year.
“People will come and support (the event) when they know the money raised is going back to the Senior Center,” said Glenda Luther, volunteer coordinator for the Senior Center.
In addition, the Senior Center provides support groups for different diseases including Arthritis, Alzheimer’s and diabetes, volunteer opportunities within the area, AARP and Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) assistance and other educational opportunities.
All items for the yard sale are donated. Luther said they are donated from several people in the community when the time comes around to have the annual sale.
“They donate the stuff, which we sell and it works as a fundraiser for us,” she said.
A high number and variety of items are donated. Last year, the Senior Center had to use multiple rooms to fit all of the items for people to look through and buy.
