Just when East Wilkes thought it might get its first victory of the season, the Ashe County Huskies overcame a halftime deficit to blow out the Cardinals, 71-45
East Wilkes held a 30-28 lead at halftime, but a potent offensive attack and a stifling Husky defense completely changed the game in the final two quarters.
Ashe outscored East by a 42-15 margin in the third and fourth quarters combined, including a 26-6 fourth quarter, to pull away for the win.
The Cardinals dropped to 0-19 overall and 0-10 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
The Huskies sit at 8-12 overall and 6-4 in MVAC action.
Ashe County shot 61-percent from the field and also limited its turnovers to just eight. The Huskies hit five three-point shots and hit 12 of its 19 shots from the charity stripe.

Ashe will have a big week coming up to close out the regular season.
The team plays Starmount at home on Monday in a game that has been postponed numerous times for bad weather. This game will also be Senior Night. Devan Sheets and Cullen Ashley are the team’s only seniors this season.
