The annual Ashe County Tennis Clinic for children and adults will start on Monday, June 9 and last through Thursday, June 12 at Ashe County High School.
For 16 years, both the young and young at heart have taken part in this tennis clinic.
Rising third graders through rising eighth graders will play from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day while rising high schoolers and adults will take part in the camp from 6:15 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Camp cost is $35 for the early session and $50 for the later one.
Ashe County Tennis Head Coach Larry Dix has invited Matt Bacon back to direct the camp. Bacon is the Director of Tennis at Deer Valley Racquet Club. Bacon was previously the head pro at Yonahlossee Racquet Club for five years and also an assistant coach of the Appalachian State University Men’s Tennis team.
Bacon also builds on experience from outside the High Country. He was the Director of Tennis at Cedar Rock Country Club in Lenoir, head pro at Ocean Reef Club in Key West, Florida and the head pro at Topnotch Resort in Stowe, Vermont.
Christine Vanard will also be on hand a camp director. Vanard has been the Assistant Tennis Professional at Deer Valley Racquet Club for five years. Vanard also played tennis at Lees-McRae College and has came to Ashe for this tennis clinic for six years now. She will be joined by other professional and college level staff.
