Ashe County’s cross country runners will spend the next few weeks getting in shape and building up endurance before the season begins on Sept. 9.


The first meet will be at East Wilkes and will feature four Mountain Valley Conference teams (East Wilkes, Ashe, Alleghany and Wilkes Central).


The following week on Sept. 16, Ashe will host a meet with all eight MVAC schools attending.


Up next, Starmount will host a four-team meet on Sept. 23. The Rams will be joined by Elkin, Ashe and North Wilkes.


The final two regular season meets for the Huskies will be at Wilkes Central. The Sept. 30 meet will have the Eagles and Huskies running with East Wilkes and Elkin. The final meet on Oct. 7 will be Central, Ashe, Starmount and Alleghany.


This year, the MVAC Championship Meet will take place at ACHS and will be on Oct. 14.


All races begin at 4:30 p.m. for the men with the women’s start time following soon after.


North Carolina High School Athletic Association regional meets are set to take place on Oct. 25 with the state championship meet on Nov. 1.
