It wasn’t the perfect start East Wilkes Coach Aaron Simmons might have hoped for, but there were plenty of positives to take out of Tuesday’s suspended match with Ashe County.

Before doubles play could get past warmups, a storm blew in with the Huskies leading 4-2. Simmons said the match is tentatively scheduled to be finished Sept. 3.

“Considering the immense advantage they had in experience, I think we played well,” Simmons said. “I really liked how we competed.”

Even though his top three were winless, Simmons said they competed well. “And we got two wins from our bottom three while missing one of our top six players,” he said.

Ashe County Coach Larry Dix liked his team’s effort also. “I’m real pleased with the effort of the girls,” he said. “They had to get relaxed. We had several examples of not giving up and going for the points.

“Overall, I’m real pleased.”
