The Lady Huskies opened the season with a second place finish at Cross Creek Country Club on Tuesday, the first non-conference tuneup for the upcoming Mountain Valley Athletic Conference season.

South Stokes finished first followed by Ashe, East Surry, Mount Airy, Elkin, Surry Central and North Surry.

Ashe had all four golfers finish par or better. Sarah Hardin had the top score of 51, a total of 12 shots under par. Savannah Brooks shot 55 (8-under), Olivia Barr shot 56 (7-under) and Alexis Howell finished with a 63 (even).

Overall, South Stokes golfer Nicole Rogers dominated the field, shooting a 41 (18-under). She finished 10 shots ahead on Hardin, 11 shots ahead of Hayley Hagwood (Mount Airy) and Whitney Cox (East Surry). Elkin’s Palmer Duncan rounded out the top five with a 54.

Up next, Ashe will go to Linville Ridge Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 2 for another non-conference match.
