The first arrest in an investigation of a 15-month-long theft of over $40,000 from an elderly West Jefferson man came last week.

Chief Robert Roten of the West Jefferson Police Department announced the arrest of Jessica B. Holman, 30, of Warrensville. She is charged with 10 counts of obtaining property under false pretenses. The warrants served on her allege that Holman electronically withdrew money from the victim’s account at Yadkin Valley Bank.

This arrest, however, may just be the tip of the iceberg. Roten said that an additional five suspects are under investigation in the case. He also stated that his department is investigating as many as 126 different incidents in the case.

The chief also said that the amount taken from the victim’s account was allegedly “between $40,000 and $45,000.”

Roten cautioned citizens to be careful with their banking information at all times, and to frequently check their accounts to be aware of any unauthorized usage.
