These words have a particular meaning in Ashe County this week, as two families struggle to recover from the terrible tragedy that took place in Mouth of Wilson, Va. on Thursday, Jan. 24.
The murders of Fred Hudler and John Steven Miller Jr. left behind three children who are now fatherless. It is up to this community to rally together and help these children in the difficult days that lie ahead for them. To put it simply: it is up to all of us to fill, to the extent possible, the role their fathers would have had in their lives.
For those who have faith as part of their lives, a good starting place is prayer. But prayer must be accompanied by action. In this case, we have the opportunity to donate from our own rich blessings to bless these children. The addresses are:
Donations to help Steven Miller’s daughter, Haleiwa (who is seven months old) may be sent to the family at PO Box 1452, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
Donations to help Fred Hudler’s two children may be sent to: AF Bank, P.O. Box 26, West Jefferson, NC 28694 Attention: Tate and Cole Hudler Fund.
Ashe County people are known for their generosity across the region and state. Dig deep, folks, and let these families know how much we all care.
