Ashe made it 17 straight wins on Thursday with a 10-1 mercy-rule win over North Wilkes.
The Huskies notched its first of many goals in the 15th minute when Cesar Ruiz booted a shot into the net off of a perfect header pass from Frank Ledezma.
Just one minute later, Ashe scored again. Lucas Hamm got the goal off of an assisting pass from Miguel Ramos.
Ruiz netted his second goal of the contest in the 19th minute to make the score 3-0. Ramos added his first of two goals in the 35th minute to put Ashe in front 4-0.
North Wilkes showed a little life at the end of the first half with a goal from Dylan Shumate. Ashe still held a 4-1 lead at halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, Ruiz capped off the hat trick with his third goal that seemed to really deflate the Viking team after playing hard in the first half.
Ashe reeled off three goals in a span of six minutes to take an 8-1 lead. Alexis Ramos moved up to the striker position from his usual fullback spot and scored a goal in the 53rd minute. One minute later, Ledezma scored to give Ashe its seventh goal. In the 59th minute, Hamm scored for a second time.
The final two goals came from M. Ramos and Anthony Federico that would bring on the mercy rule. Federico scored in the 63rd minute, then Ramos easily scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to end the game.
Ashe, who sits at third in the 2A state poll, moved to 17-1 overall and 11-0 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
As of press time, no new 2A state poll had been released.
The Huskies plan to honor the seniors on Monday night in a non-conference matchup against North Surry. Ashe then travels to Wilkes Central on Wednesday for a rivalry game against the Eagles.
