Offseason summer workouts have started, and the 2012 Husky soccer season is just a month away.
Ashe is coming off of two outstanding seasons. In 2010, the team advanced to the third round of the 2A state playoffs, while last year’s team won 16 games and a playoff game against rival Wilkes Central before falling in the second round at Surry Central.
This year, the team will start the regular season against the rival Watauga Pioneers at home on August 13.
Non-conference play continues on Aug. 20 with a game at Mitchell County, followed by a home game against the same Mitchell squad on Aug. 23. The Huskies will wrap up the early portion of its non-conference action with games on back-to-back nights at Avery on Aug. 27 and at Hibriten on Aug. 28. Ashe finishes the month with its first conference game of the season at Elkin on Aug. 30.
September opens with a home match against Starmount, Tuesday, Sept. 4 before heading back on the road to West Wilkes on Sept. 6.
The Huskies alternate home and away contests for much of the rest of the season. Ashe completes September with a home match against North Wilkes (Sept. 10), a road battle at Alleghany (Sept. 13), a big home match against rival Wilkes Central (Sept. 17), a road game at soccer powerhouse Forbush (Sept. 20), a home game against East Wilkes (Sept. 24) and finally a non-conference tilt with Alexander Central on Sept. 27.
The second half of the conference season begins with the first game in October, a home match versus Elkin on Oct. 1. Ashe travels to Starmount Oct. 4, returns home against West Wilkes Oct. 8 and travels to North Wilkes Oct. 11, leaving just four regular season games left to play.
Ashe finishes the slate with a home match against Alleghany (Oct. 15), a road contest at Wilkes Central (Oct. 17), Senior Night against Forbush (Oct. 22) and the final match on the road at East Wilkes on Oct. 25.
State playoff games begin on Oct. 31 with first round action. State championship games are scheduled for November 17 and 18.
