Senior Glenn Bailey was named MVAC Runner of the Year for the men’s cross country competitors this season. Bailey earned the conference championship at the MVAC meet held at Forbush, then advanced all the way to the state championship meet where he finished in eighth place. Joining him on the All-Conference team was Josh-Rees Jones (Ashe), Aaron Defreitus (Elkin), Will Jolly (East Wilkes), Daniel Jones (West Wilkes), J.J. LaPlante (West Wilkes), Abram Logan (East Wilkes), Cuauthli Lozada (Elkin), Zach Milsaps (Elkin) and Colby Shell (West Wilkes). Honorable mention for the men’s runners included Zachary Andrews (Forbush), Anderw Byrd (Forbush), Alec Faircloth (Forbush), Lee Johnson (Wilkes Central), and Zack Prevette (East Wilkes).
On the women’s side, Ashe County earned the conference title this year as a team while head coach Marybeth Greene was named MVAC Coach of the Year. The ladies had two runners named to the All-Conference team which were Mac Church and Lynde Ring. Joining those two on the team were Laney Browder (Wilkes Central, MVAC Runner of the Year), Jennifer Baity (Forbush), Madeline Carter (Elkin), Madison Durham (Elkin), Jordan Halverson (Wilkes Central), Krista LaPlante (West Wilkes), Jessica Rumple (East Wilkes), and McKenzie Stokes (East Wilkes). Ashe also had three athletes receive Honorable Mention recognition for their outstanding seasons. Victoria Reed, Chrissy Simmons, and Sarah Spanbauer all received the honor. MaKayla Estep (Wilkes Central) and Kalen Vogler (Alleghany) received Honorable Mention awards as well.
In volleyball, Ashton Gregory of Starmount was named MVAC Player of the Year while Starmount head coach Jon Symons was named MVAC Coach of the Year. All-Conference players were Erin Barr (Starmount), Laken Blevins (Alleghany), Olivia Gough (Starmount), Cassidy Gregory (East Wilkes), Natalie Hauser (Forbush), Paige Love (Wilkes Central), Josie Matthews (Starmount), Hannah Murrah (Alleghany), Cortland Phillips (Forbush), Haley Smoot (East Wilkes), Brinsley Stewart (Starmount), Tatum Taylor (Forbush), Keri Wingler (West Wilkes), Amber Wooten (Starmount) and Lindsey York (Forbush).
The Lady Huskies had two athletes receive Honorable Mention recognition. Seniors MacKinsey Johnson and Mackenzie Domske were chosen to the list. Joining the two Ashe players in the Honorable Mention group were Raegen Bumgarner (North Wilkes), Ashley Burgess (Forbush), Hannah Cardwell (West Wilkes), Jackie Denny (North Wilkes), Kennedy Gambill (Alleghany), Haley Hartman (Starmount), Ashley Hayes (East Wilkes), Martha Mastin (Wilkes Central), Adrian Pardue (East Wilkes), Laken Rutledge (West Wilkes), Cayley Shoemaker (Elkin), Mika Sprinkle (Alleghany), Jasmine Strickland (Elkin), Haley Williams (Wilkes Central), and Lindsey Williams (Forbush).
