Ellenor I. Mastorio

Ellenor I. Mastorio of West Jefferson, beloved mother and wife, passed away peacefully on Aug. 31, 2012.

A former resident of Bethesda, Md., Mrs. Mastorio moved to West Jefferson with her husband in February 2011. Her last days were spent being lovingly cared for at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Boone.

A native of Germany, Mrs. Mastorio was born in Leipzig on Dec. 3, 1929 and spent her youth in Berlin, before moving to Bavaria where she met her husband, Gaetano A. Mastorio shortly after WWII. She and her husband remained in Germany, started their family, and moved to the U.S. in 1972.

Mrs. Mastorio remained an avid traveler, exploring the world until settling in Ashe County. She was a devoted and loving mother, wife, and friend, who always put the needs of others before her own. With her keen wit and ready smile, she brought great joy and much laughter to those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Mastorio is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gaetano A. Mastorio of West Jefferson; her sister, Angela Elzer of Bad Reichenhall, Germany; her daughters and their spouses, Janice Mastorio-Worth and David Worth of West Jefferson and Nancy and Dale Hutchinson of Stafford, Va.; four grandchildren, Alexandra, Vanessa, Matthew, and Brent; and several members of her family in Germany.

She will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
