Fiddlers Convention showcases regional talent

Musicians, singers and dancers young and young at heart came from North Carolina and several surrounding states to compete in the 43rd Annual Ashe County Bluegrass & Old Time Fiddlers Convention.

Held Friday and Saturday at Ashe County Park in Jefferson, the convention featured some of the best in area old time and bluegrass bands along with individuals (youth and adult) competing on fiddle, guitar, banjo, dobro, bass fiddle, mandolin and in folk song.

Scholarships by the sponsoring Jeffersons Rotary Club were also announced.

Fred Fogleman of Liberty won the 50/50 drawing ($211).

Results are scheduled to be published in the Friday, Aug. 10 edition of the Jefferson Post.
