The Lady Huskies Tennis program lost another close match on Tuesday evening when they hosted the East Wilkes Cardinals for their third MVAC match of the season.

Ashe fell to East with a final score of 4-5 after being split with the Cardinals 3-3 after singles play. In doubles, the Cardinals won the first and third doubles matches, giving them the necessary five victories to claim the team victory.

In singles, Ashe lost two matches in third-set tiebreakers, after Courtney Bowers won the first seeded match in a third-set tiebreaker. Lizzie Hanes and Sierra Wilson lost singles matches in the tiebreakers, while Amanda Tugman lost her match also.

Allie Weaver and Haley Maloney were the other two Huskies to claim singles victories.

In doubles, Wilson and Maloney teamed up to defeat Sony Billings and Kayla Martin from East, which gave Maloney two victories on the day, the only Husky to do so.

To exemplify the closeness of the match, all three doubles matches were settled with less than four game separations in the scores.

The Huskies have fell to a misleading 1-3 record to start the season, with their only victory coming in a 7-2 victory at Forbush to open the season.

Following Tuesday’s loss to East Wilkes, the Huskies had the remainder of the week off, and will resume play next week.
