Heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday caused many local streams to overwhelm their banks, resulting in the inundation of some of the area’s low-water bridges. This is the crossing of the North Fork of the New River at Ed Little Road near Creston. Some areas reported more than 2 inches of rainfall by day’s end Wednesday. The onslaught of heavy rain was followed by light snow shower activity on Wednesday afternoon that lasted well into the day on Thursday. Anywhere from a dusting to three inches was reported at various locations throughout the county. The North Carolina Department of Transportation reported partially covered roads across the county with some secondary roads completely covered with snow or ice.
