With August fast approaching, Yadkin Valley Bank is reminding Ashe County that it’s time to begin thinking about the upcoming school year as book bags, notebooks, pens and pencils are already being collected for the 5th Annual ‘Stuff the Bus’ drive.
Started by Yadkin Valley Bank to collect necessary school supplies for local students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12, the ‘Stuff the Bus’ drive accepts anything from paper, binders, pencil erasers, and paper towels, to composition and coloring books, calculators, pens, antibacterial soap, and rulers. All will be accepted and can be dropped off inside the West Jefferson and Jefferson Yadkin Valley Bank locations.
Yadkin Valley Bank Commercial Lender Carolyn Miller said the annual drive is held as a way to, “give back to the community,” and said that all participants are striving to have the bus filled to the windows with all types of school supplies by the end of the drive.
Once all donated items are collected and sorted into the appropriate age groups, the supplies will be placed in the yellow school bus that is on display in the parking lot of Yadkin Valley Bank on Mount Jefferson Road. Local students in need are then invited to come to the Mount Jefferson Road location at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to receive their supplies.
Guidance counselors from each of the county’s five schools will be on hand to assist with the distribution of supplies to make for a “smooth process,” in ensuring that each of the students receives the tools he or she needs for academic success in the upcoming school year. Counselors, along with bank employees, will remain on site to distribute supplies while they last.
