To the Editor:

On behalf of Appalachian District Health Department, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Ashe County Health Council of Ashe Memorial Hospital, Lansing Volunteer Fire Department, and the Lansing Community for demonstrating a true example of community partnership. Over the past year, this community has developed the beginning of their dream for their Lansing Park with a beautiful walking track and swings. Nancy Kautz and Juliana Whitaker of Ashe County Health Council and Ashe Memorial Hospital have worked diligently to contribute funding for the walking track and park from a Fit Community Grant awarded by the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund. We all have been privileged to contribute to the community’s vision of an opportunity for nearby physical activity with an Eat Smart, More More NC Community Grant. These efforts would not have been possible without the leadership and support of the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department, the Town of Lansing, and many dedicated members of the Lansing Community. It is their commitment to their community that has made this project possible. We have appreciated being a part of such a wonderful partnership and project for Lansing.
