An investigation by the West Jefferson Police Department has led to the arrest of a West Jefferson man on charges of breaking and entering and larceny.

Authorities said that Jonathan Lee Stinnett, 22, has been charged with two counts of felonious breaking and entering and two counts of felonious larceny after breaking and entering. He has also been charged with two counts of misdemeanor damage to property. Chief Brian Grogan said additional charges may be forthcoming.

The break-ins occurred on the night of April 6 at Radio Hill Auto Sales and Abby’s Market which both are located on North Jefferson Avenue.

Stinnett allegedly took a small amount of money and other miscellaneous items from the Radio Hill Auto Sales car lot. He also allegedly took a cash register, beer, cigarettes, and money from a church missionary donation container from Abby’s Market.

An investigation by the Capt. Jason Finney and Lt. Detective Chris Welch led to Stinnett’s arrest the following morning.

Stinnett is currently in the Ashe County Jail under a $4,000 bond, awaiting a first appearance April 9.
