Worth E. Gentry
Mr. Worth E. Gentry, better known as “Pappy,” a long time businessman of North Carolina and Virginia, passed away Tuesday evening, June 26, 2012 at his home in West Jefferson. He was 102.
Mr. Gentry was born in Ashe County, son of the late Troy General Gentry and Cora Houck Gentry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Lillis Houck Gentry, on Oct. 20, 2010; seven brothers, John, Bower, Wint, Homer, Wayne, Reeves, and Bryan Gentry; and two sisters, Hilda Horton and Winnie Holman.
Mr. Gentry is survived by a son, Tim Gentry of Blowing Rock; a daughter, Suzanne Gentry Lewis and husband, Bryce, of West Jefferson; two grandchildren, Pam Payne and husband, Marc, of West Jefferson and Jeff Lewis of West Jefferson; three great grandchildren, Coleman Payne, Bryson Payne and Blake Lewis; a brother, Hill Gentry of Abingdon, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bart Milleson officiating, with burial following in the Bethany Cemetery.
The family received friends from 11:30-3 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral services.
