The Ashe County junior varsity boys captured the 2012-2013 Mountain Valley Conference championship, in spite of falling short against West Wilkes on Friday night.

Bradley Lucas poured in a season-high 23 points, but the Blackhawks edged the Huskies, 62-60.

Corbin Winebarger chipped in 10 points, Connor Bowers had nine and Gavin Woodie added six points. Maison McNeill finished with five points, Kendall Richardson scored five and Parker Shelton rounded out Ashe’s scoring with two points.

The Huskies finished the year at 17-6 overall and 13-3 in the MVAC.

It appeared that Ashe would have to share the conference crown with Wilkes Central and Starmount. However, Central was upset on Friday and Ashe beat Starmount in both meetings this season, giving the Huskies the outright championship.
