Mr. John Neal Severt of West Jefferson died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his home. He was 65.

Mr. Severt was born Jan. 11, 1948, in Ashe County to Albert Lawrence and Lessie McNeil Severt.

Mr. Severt was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Severt worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an all around outdoorsman. John always enjoyed making people laugh. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Severt is survived by a Goddaughter, Jennifer Daughtry of Willow Spring; Godson, Jeffery Hayes of Boone; one sister, Wilma Brinegar of Fleetwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Eddie Lyle and Elder James McNeill. Burial will follow in Mount Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.

Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to any veteran’s organization.
