Mr. John Paul Lewis

Mr. John Paul Lewis of Boone died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. He was 88.

Mr. Lewis was born on Dec. 12, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Arthur and Clyde Hodgson Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was also preceded in death by a brother, J.R. Lewis; and a sister, Helen Dupree.

Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed painting and horses. He loved the Lord and his family.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Cathy Phillips Lewis of Boone; son, Thom R. Lewis of North Wilkesboro; sister, Thera Jean Wallis of Starkville, Miss.; grandson, T. Richard Lewis of Greensboro; granddaughter, Heather Sawyer of Winston Salem; great grandchildren, Dakota, Valorie, and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Paul Coffey. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
