Rev. James Paul Ashley of Warrensville passed away Monday morning, Dec. 24, 2012 at Villages of Wilkes. He was 77.

Rev. Ashley was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, March 26, 1935, to the late Don and Gladys Richardson Ashley. He was a Volvo Specialist. He was ordained a minister by the Church of Christ in Christian Union.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Shyver Ashley on May 8, 1998, and by a brother Donnie Ashley.

Rev. Ashley is survived by his wife, Geneva Wilcox Ashley, of Little River, S.C.; three sons, Rick Ashley and wife, Phyllis, of Jefferson, Jerry Ashley and wife, Sara, of West Jefferson and David Ashley, of Fleetwood; a brother, Ed Ashley, of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Deanna Herr and Donna Sue Ashley, both of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Ashley, Rev. Bob Cundiff and Rev. Fred Houck officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon-2:30 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the funeral service.
