Reid Osborne of Lansing received a pin from Eula Blevins of the Red Cross in recognition of his donating 20 gallons of blood.
Reid Osborne, 64, has given blood at the Red Cross for 44 years, and recently broke the 20-gallon mark.
“I started in 1969,” said Osborne, a Vietnam veteran who served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army. His experiences there showed him the importance of donating blood, he said.
Osborne has so far donated 160 pints of A-, a rare blood type shared by only 6.3 percent of the U.S. population.
“I’d like to thank the good Lord for giving me the health to give it,” he said, “and the volunteers at the Red Cross; without without their help we couldn’t get this done.”
Osborne is retired after 40 years working for Sprague Electric/United Chemi-con. He and his wife, Faye, live in Lansing.
